Running Boards

The running boards for the Suburban arrived a couple of days ago, so today we put them on.  It wasn’t like the 18 minute per side install as advertised on the site, but we did get it done in under 2 hours!  The boys were really good helpers.

As you can tell, Bryce was posing for the camera.

Brenden being cold.

One side done!

Byce showing off the running boards.

No, it’s not washed.  It’s kinda hard to wash your behicle when there’s still snow on the ground!

The girls tried out the running boards and it really helps them get in and out.

Our little miracle

Last Thursday night was our ward’s Cub Scout Blue and Gold Banquet.  Emily was in charge of cooking a ton of rice for the dinner.  She got the rice started and went upstairs to get ready and came back downstairs to 16 cups of rice that were burnt on the bottom and halfway cooked on the top.  So, she dumped it all out into the sink, washed out the pan and started again.

The next day as Emily was doing dishes, the sink backed up.  When I got home that evening, I pulled apart the plumbing and noticed that there wasn’t a clog in the trap.  So, I got out my plumbers snake (thanks Dad!!) and started going down the drain.  My snake is 15 feet long and I put all 15 feet down the drain and finally brought some thing out.  It was rice.  The partially cooked rice had expanded in the drainpipe clogging it up tight.  Try as I might, I needed a longer snake to get through it.  I didn’t have one and nobody I knew had one so we called around for a plumber.  Since it was technically the weekend now, the rates were very high.  So, we decided to do dishes in the bathtub until Monday when we would call a plumber to come.  I did try one more thing before I gave up.  I threaded my compressor hose down as far as I could and let blast 100 psi of air down the tube.  Twice I did this, but the sink was still clogged.

Sunday evening Emily asked me to drain the sink out and I thereby discovered that water was now draining down the pipe.  I looked at the boys who were helping me and asked them if they had prayed that the drain would be fixed.  They said no, but Emily said she had.  Then Emily asked the boys what the Sacrament talks were on today.  They answered "tithing and the blessings that come from paying our tithing."  Emily then asked what had we just done this morning, pay our tithing.  As we expressed our thanks to our Heavenly Father, we realized what a teaching moment this was for us and our children, and how everything seemed to work together for this moment.

It’s a funny thing …. our Heavenly Father is so aware of us, in fact he is even aware of the clogs in our drain!
